Having the honour to adopt a rescue dog is an amazing experience for both the owner and dog. Some rescue dogs have the fortune of having their past life explained to the rescue centre if they have been surrendered but for the majority of dogs, they cannot have their story told. They cannot say what their life was like before you, what trauma they have endured, what injuries they have had, they cannot explain what anxiety they feel or why they exhibit some of the behaviours they do. Not knowing what the dog has been through can leave a lot of second guessing to certain behaviours. You may be seeing a clinical animal behaviourist, or the rescue centre may have provided this for the dog to help understand why they are showing certain behaviours.
When behavioural or even training issues arise and are proving difficult to resolve, it may be that unknown muscular pain is the underlying link to some behavioural problems. The Canine Bodywork Clinic (CBC) can work with your vet, behaviourist or trainer, as part of a multidisciplinary team to help your dog. Dog’s store and feel pain just the same as us humans, and this therapy can be very beneficial to those pains, it can help with:
· Hidden areas of pain
· Unwilling to be petted or groomed
· Anxiety – often emotional anxiety
· Old muscular injuries
· Finding it difficult to accept touch
· Guarding an area from being touched
· Mobility issues
· Lameness/limping
· Twitching on the skin
· Difficulty relaxing
